There are few companies that I trust more than Johnsonville. That's quite a statement, right?
Not just saying it. For reals. It's true.
I've had SO many good experiences with them, both as an Allstar and just a regular consumer. These guys care. I really just don't know how else to say it.
They are always quick to do whatever they can to please and care for their customers. They're just a great company to deal with- did I mention they really make great products too? Because they do. Worth every cent to purchase their products rather than store brand.
Needless to say, I was THRILLED to be given the opportunity to work with them again this month through Allrecipes.
I had a couple of assignments (more on that later this month...), one of which was to make over a Fall comfort food recipe using Johnsonville Italian Sausage.
There is a chill in the air, the leaves are starting to turn gold and red...I'm all over the Fall cooking thing these days. I'm loving Fall at the moment. :-)
Few things scream cool Fall days, football-filled weekends, and comfort food like chili. Such a warm, cozy, easy way to feed people something wonderful- great for a crowd too!
So much yumminess with so little work! My family (ahem...my husband and I that is...) finished this entire batch off in two days. We seriously ate it for every meal. My husband even ate it with eggs for breakfast (ugh. Not for me thanks...)- really. It's that good.
Did I mention it's relatively low-carb too? Even more so if you sub Splenda for the brown sugar. I've never had such a substantial, filling, eats-like-a-meal bean-free chili before!
The kids and I were at Girl Scouts when my husband came home from work the night I made this...he was pretty blown away. lol See below for the kind of texts I was getting from him before I got home...
Some recipes are ok. Some are good enough to make again sometime. Then there are some recipes that just hit it so far out of the park you know they will be a regular part of your life for many years to come. This is a recipe like that, for sure! My husband already asked if I can double it next time :-)
Just one tip? Don't try to skimp on the cook time. Get it all made, and walk away, just stirring occasionally. I wasn't at all sure this was going to come together well when I first walked away, but several hours of simmering brought this together beautifully! You could even let it simmer in the crock pot if you really want to just walk away- enjoy!

1 1/2 tsp ground cumin

1. Place the ground beef, ground sweet Italian sausage, and onion in a large saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring to crumble the beef, until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is tender. Drain off the fat and return the pan to the stove. Add all remaining ingredients, stir to combine. Simmer for 4 hours before serving.

ReplyDeleteI agree! Love them!
DeleteI saw this recipe on Pinterest and have been searching for that perfect chili recipe for a long time so I tried it. I must say, this is the best chili I have ever eaten! My husband and I loved it. I did add some kidney beans and a tad less chili powder but it had the perfect amount of spice and flavor. I made it with some cornbread and it was great for a cold and rainy-day meal. This will be my go-to chili recipe from now on! Thanks for the wonderful recipe!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed it- I think I've made it once a week since the weather started to get cooler!
